Tapping (EFT)
Tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique)
What Is It and How Does It Work?
Tapping (EFT) is a tool used not only to overcome old, unwanted thought patterns that sit in our subconscious mind and sabotage our life, but also to install and reinforce new positive patterns, programmes and habits.
Our subconscious mind cannot make choices – it can only react. Only the conscious aspect of our mind is aware and can make choices. We are generally not aware of what is sitting in our subconscious mind, as it is hidden.
The subconscious holds all our memories and programming from the moment we’re born, but we are generally not aware of them until we can bring them into our conscious mind. Tapping enables us to do this.
Tapping (EFT) combines ancient Chinese acupressure and modern psychology with startling results.
From pain relief, to healing childhood traumas, clearing limiting financial beliefs, weight loss, body image and food cravings, fears and phobias, Tapping is proving to be a powerful, well-researched, effective and easy to learn and apply technique.
Tapping (EFT) utilises the body’s own energy meridian points by stimulating them with the fingertips – literally tapping into the body’s own energy and healing power.
Tapping (EFT) uses the tips of 2 fingers to tap lightly on specific (meridian) points on the face, neck and head. This action, combined with certain affirmative words and phrases, allows the problematic thought to rise to the surface of the conscious mind and be eliminated.

Your body is more powerful than you can imagine. It is filled with life, energy, and a compelling ability for self-healing. With Tapping (EFT), you can take control of that power.
How Does Tapping (EFT) Work?
When you’re experiencing a negative emotional state—angry or upset or fearful— your brain goes into alert mode. It prepares your body to enter a full-blown, fight-or-flight response. This response originally evolved to mobilise the body to face an external threat…think of a tiger coming after your ancient ancestor.
All the body’s defence systems are turned on to support either fighting or fleeing from the danger. Your adrenaline starts to pump, your muscles tense, and your blood pressure, heart rate, and blood sugar all rise to give you extra energy to meet the challenge.
Stress creators in ancient days were very real threats to survival. Today, however, the fight-or-flight response is rarely activated by a physical threat. Most of our fight-or-flight responses today are triggered internally.
For many of us, the internally generated stress response is triggered by a negative memory or thought that has its roots in past trauma or conditioned learning from childhood.
The stress response in the body takes the same form, however, whether the trigger is the tiger (external) or a negative memory (internal). Adrenaline flows, the heart races, and so on…
What Tapping (EFT) does, with amazing efficiency, is halt the fight-or-flight response and reprogram the brain and body to act and react differently.
The stress response begins in your brain in the almond-shaped amygdala, one of the components of the limbic system, or mid-brain. The midbrain is located between the frontal lobes (the cortex) and the hindbrain (also called the reptilian brain) – the earliest, most primitive part of the brain.
The limbic system is the source of emotions and long-term memory, and it’s where negative experiences are encoded.
The amygdala has been called the body’s smoke detector. “Uh-oh, here comes trouble.” says the amygdala. “Something is threatening our safety.” It signals the brain to mobilise the body into the fight-or-flight response.
Tapping on the appropriate meridian points helps to deactivate the amygdala’s alarm and sends a calming response to the body, and the amygdala recognises that it is safe.
Once you experience how quick and easy it is to change old, destructive thought patterns, you will see your life start to change before your eyes. Tapping (EFT) is effective and powerful.
